Urban Warfare
28 August 2009

bomb vaseDesigners get regimental with the latest decor finds inspired by the art of war

Everything from bullets, bombs, and err, samurai swords come to play as inspiration for design heavy-hitters who are creating guy-friendly playthings that double as home decor. Take for instance this samurai sword umbrella ($36) that is just for kicks.

It even has such intricate braiding along its handle that this umbrella should be left indoors lest some unsuspecting person thinks you’re sporting a sheathed sword.

Now moving ahead to modern warfare, Owen & Cloud does a vase ($49) that is ironically dubbed A Peaceful Bomb and complete with a little cut out at the tail of the faux bomb for your fresh cut flowers. Not quite as evocative as putting flowers into muzzles but still eyebrow raising. And from the same designers comes a ceramic piggy bank shaped like hand grenades ($35) sorry but pulling its pin doesnt make for an exploding mess of coins.

And if none of that seems practical enough for the everyday, consider the AK47 ice tray ($15) that spews out ice shaped like rifle ammunition. Talk about full metal jacket!
