    Summer Wardrobe Extension
    7 September 2009

Long gone are rules like banning white after labor day and black bags with brown shoes. Especially in New York, were edgy style comes from places like the Williamsburg and Orchard Street, not glistening windows on 5th Ave. So it’s okay to extend your summer wardrobe while the weather remains warm. It’s not, however, okay to be wearing flip flops and mini skirts at the end of September.

white jeans all yearYour whites. Pack up the teeny white shorts and probably some tank top numbers, but hold onto white pants, looser-fitting dresses and flowy tops that can be paired with a belt and skinny jeans and lightweight sweaters. When the temperature drops, load on the layers. White jeans look great paired with this season’s fur, scarves and such and can carry your wardrobe deep into winter wonderland.

As for dresses, choose smart combos of summers dress paired with boyfriend blazers or lightweight sweaters. But begin pairing them with closed-toe ballet flats, or a flat chunkier bootie. As for your yellow espadrilles, played out gladiator sandal and worn Haviana flip flop, you might consider giving those a rest.

If it’s hot. It’s hot. Thigh high boots and bomber jackets will just have to wait. In the meantime, feel free to rock your flower print dresses,
