    Color Me Bright
    15 December 2009

Sure, we love the grunge chic, ode to Kurt Cobain, rock revival. True, we can’t take off our combat boots and have accessorized in leather ad nauseum. And admitted, we are so tempted to go all Jenny Humphrey for this season’s holiday parties. But if there is any time to match your dress collection to your Christmas tree ornaments it’s now.

From Diane von Furstenberg to Derek Lam, designers for Fall pulled the hemline of their bright and cheery pieces above the knee. Feeling pasty? It’s perfectly fine to slap on those embellished Wolford tights you’ve been dying to done. Feeling frisky? If you can’t loosen the grip on rock chic, pair with your black studded ankle boots. Now for accessories: if your dress of choice is one shoulder, accessorize with statement earrings or a bracelet. Necklaces with one shoulder dresses should come low and add to the drama of the neck rather than crowd around the top of the edge. (See center.) While this season is all about the statement piece, choose one or two so not to overwhelm your look. And you still feel too sweet and perfect, keep your make-up a bit bad ass.

On a budget, we’ve seen single color dresses at Zara, Top Shop, Daffy’s and even… Forever 21. If you opt for the less expensive version, check the hemlines for snags and tears and pair with finer footwear.
