Maxi Dresses? Yes, they’re still in. Don’t be ridiculous, a trend doesn’t end that fast. Besides, it’s only June. July and August will also have weather to tempt you into one of these flowy dresses. And, if you’re into mix-and-match style, you’ll wear one in September with a big belt and a cardigan. Sienna Miller will probably wear that sort of outfit until January. Which will probably be old by then. But, let’s pace ourselves. This is now. Like I said, it’s only June. I’m sort of appalled that I’ve seen so many unflattering maxi dresses, by reputable designers, no less. There is this one by Ella Moss that, with the dropped waist and color will really only achieve in making you look like a dour little banana. And, for the girl who wants to wear a muumuu (a real word, who knew?), or dress like Mary-Kate Olsen, there’s this ginormously* huge maxi dress by French Connection. Why would they do that? Seriously, tell me why anyone would go ‘hey, that’s attractive, we should sell this to everyone!’ Gross. 1. Yoana Baraschi Beaded Tribal Patio Dress at Neiman Marcus ($420.00). Tribal, yay! 3. Elie Tahari Kara Long Embroidered Dress at bloomingdale’s ($498.00). Last summer, maxi dresses were everywhere. This spring, they’re back and I’m loving them. Normally, I only wear floor length dresses for formal occasions. The number of formal occasions I’ve been to in the last couple of years, you could probably count on one hand and still have a few fingers left over. That said, I’m super excited to be able to make full-length dresses look casual again. The only down side to this trend? It’s a little pricey. But I like to think that you can spend on a dress what you would’ve spent on a bottom and top. Using that kind of math, I can justify just about any dress.
This aqua printed maxi shirred tube dress reminds me of summer. The prints and the shirring at the top make me want to throw on a pair of flip-flops, my favorite sun glasses and head straight to the beach. For $98, this turquoise print dress is gorgeous and definitely the price of any decent top and bottom put together.
In a dark blue print, this dress is a little less summer and a little more transitioning to warm weather. Made from a cotton material, this dress is definitely light and probably isn’t the best idea to wear tomorrow but it is a great idea to pick it up soon so that when the weather warms up, you’ll be ahead of the trend. Also $98, Hard Tail’s gauze maxi dress is available in navy blue or white, two really great colors.
Happy Shopping!

The sky’s the limit when dealing with the latest trend in cityscape décor. Take your pick from the Paris, Stockholm, Helsinki, or Toyko skylines which inspired designer Elina Aalto to create her black perforated Better Views roller blinds with cut outs made to mimic the city’s nighttime appearance.
The subtle illusion comes with a hefty $470 sticker though so you may want to opt for woven View from Brooklyn shades ($345) for which the price tag for a view of Manhattan is easier to swallow when you reason that the shades double as anti-UV ray screens.
But why limit yourself when you can go for a wider statement and take to the walls with decals. No need to splurge for Wall Slicks’ skyline sticky ($120) when you can glue down the same look for a third the price on Etsy.
And for the little kiddies, blik offers their City by Boodalee graphics ($55) which come with a cartoon cityscape complete with bridges and double-decker buses.
