It's March, and that's reason enough to drink from a fancy shmancy glass.

    4 March 2010

If you just got really excited, maybe even said “Yes!” or “Sweet!” aloud at your desk. If there was a fist pump involved with your reaction to this week’s food find, then we half love you and half advise you watch a little less television. But regardless of your visible reaction, here at the Daily Vogue, we suggest you think Tasting Table New York and Thrillist for bringing you - Martini Week.

    martini week

Martini Week extends March 1-14th (it was actually two weeks!).We would’ve written this sooner, but we were busy sampling the $10 martinis at several participating venues. Many Martini Week spots (see also: New Yorks classiest establishments) offer vodka and gin classics, while others list a combination of classics and some of their new school special martinis. 10 Downing’s delicious Elder Fizz (Grey Goose Vodka, St-Germain and maraschino liqueur) was on the list as was Tabla’s “Tablatini” (Grey Goose Vodka, pineapple “soup” containing sweetened pineapples and lemongrass, and a squeeze of lemon) and at Public last night we sampled a “Liquid Gold Martini” (Grey Goose Le Citron flavored vodka, elderflower liqueur, lemon juice and kumquat honey syrup containing star anise and clove).

For a super classic experience head up to Peacock Alley at the Waldorf, Delmonico’s or the Oak Room. Not interested in life above 14th Street? You might try Madam Geneva on Bleeker and Bowery or Rayuela on Allen. Whatever floats your spirit-loving boat. It’s March, and that’s reason enough to sip something strong and feel fancy shmancy glass.

Even without a sunny vacation, you can attain a mid-winter glow from inside out.

    1 March 2010

Some of our friends flew South (really far South) to catch a mid-winter glow, but we weren’t so lucky. So we set off to find our get our glow on el natural. Face masks, bronzer, extensive exfoliation, and a even pricey facials only got us so far. To obtain an authentic mid-winter glow, we had to work our way from the inside out. sweat

Sweat, however uncomfortable and icky it might be, is your dull winter skin’s best remedy. Why is sweat so good for your skin? A good sweat can remove up to 30% of your body’s toxins.  Foods we eat, drinks, and the smoggy city we live in fill our bodies with toxins on a daily basis. Sure our body naturally rids itself of some toxins, but sweating is a fool proof way of cleaning our bodies and making our skin shine bright.  (Incidentally sweat helps regulate our pulse and calm our neurotic NYC nerves.)

Winter might be a time when you sweat less - the gyms are cooler, outdoor runs are increasingly difficult with the streets covered in snow and slush, etc. But winter is one of the most important times to flush your skin. So hit the gym, got to hot yoga, or run the stairs in your apartment building. But by all means, sweat once a day to rejuvenate your skin.

    10 February 2010

Notoriously slow February transformed into super-slow February last week when two feet of snow plummeted East Coasters into hibernation. So everyone had to stay at home and turn on their own televisions rather than gathering at their friend’s house to watch just one television, making Super Bowl XLIV the most watched U.S. television event ever.

snow bryant parkMalls and stores across the country closed or altered their hours due to weather conditions. On the worst day, Saturday, 65 Macy’s stores and 5 Bloomingdale’s locations closed. Target Corp. said the weather disrupted  business in 70 of their east coast stores. And the Dow but it closed last week down a hundred points. Retailers are banking on Valentine’s Day and the long weekend to bump up their sales which normally account for $14 billion in U.S. consumer spending. Monday, the Dow was back up near 10,000 and by final bell yesterday, retail stocks were up 1.2% and the Dow pushed past 10,000.

Oh but silly snow can hardly halt New York Fashion Week. Despite the Big Apple’s wintry weather conditions and the anticipated 6-10 inches to come, fashion minions are in full preparation mode. Shows are slated to begin Thursday as planned. The Council of Fashion Designers of America and IMG both noted that there is no room for schedule changes. Immediately following New York all designers, models and industry professionals have London, Milan and Paris. In other words, the show must go on. And we will report on that show next week…in shopping.

The immeasurable amount of looks you can create will give you a refreshing shot of creativity.

    9 February 2010

Sundance is over. There was something about a football game. We are officially over winter and ready for skirts, dresses and the ability to freely wear heels without worrying about scary ice patches. Our body’s are craving a mid-winter dress and warmth.

All hail the winter piece that keeps on giving! We found - or are reporting on - yet another way to way your still bitchin’ fur vest. And your light weight, warmer weather appropriate leather bomber for that matter. Celebs, models and beautiful French women roaming the streets of Paris pair their fancy - see also: staple - dresses with their faux animal top pieces for both style and warmth. The infinite amount of looks you can create will give your sluggish winter brain a refreshing shot of creativity as you can use just about any winter-appropriate dress in your closet. Use your cotton dresses for a more casual look and your fancy frocks with fur for a night on the town. Jason Wu paired his faux fur with a navy band aid dress during Fall 2009 ready-to-wear collection and celebs like Olivia Palermo, Kate Moss, Blake Lively and so on and so forth. Just remember, to choose a less restrictive piece of outerwear to accommodate your frock and faux underneath.
