"Corner Booth" Webserial
Webserial : A webserial is a written work of literature available primarily or solely on the Internet. The term comes from old serial stories that were once published regularly in newspapers. Wikipedia free encyclopedia “Corner Booth” is a webserial that was inspired by many water-cooler conversations about “Sex and the City”, and follows the lives of five single New York women, along with their careers, loves, and pets. You’ll see similarities to “Sex and the City” in the girls’ lust for fashion and shoe fetishes, but you’ll also find things that were glaringly absent in the HBO series. The “Sex and the City” girls were all white, well-to-do, and never took public transportation-and represented maybe 4% of the New York City population. In “Corner Booth,” Noelle is African-American, Graciela is Latina, and Kyoko is Japanese-American (and gay). None of the girls can afford Manolos at full price, and they all live real, subway-taking New York lives, which include bargain hunting and living outside of Manhattan, two things that the women of SATC found anathema. “Corner Booth” represents not only a new generation of single women, but a new demographic as well; one that more truly reflects the colors, flavors, and frustrations of life in New York City.
What has happened so far… Allison and Kyoko are both reeling from painful breakups: Allison’s husband left her for a woman who owns a cheese shop, and Kyoko’s ex-girlfriend has already started dating someone else. Meanwhile, Noelle has landed the lead in an Off-Broadway show called “McDonalds: The Musical” and is love with a guy named Lance who lives in her building. Unfortunately, Lance is engaged, which leaves Noelle both plotting to steal him and seducing hot waiters. Graciela is engaged to her long time boyfriend, Rickey, and is planning her wedding, much to the chagrin of the ever cynical Roxie, who finds herself helping Graciela with all the plans. Graciela, meanwhile, is playing cupid with Roxie and Javier, a long time friend of Graciela and Rickey. Though Javier sincerely likes Roxie, Roxie is standoffish and sometimes cold, prompting Javier to wonder whether or not he should continue to pursue a relationship with her. But once again, Graciela intervenes, forcing Roxie to think hard about what she wants and give Javier a fair chance… Will Allison and Kyoko move on? Will Noelle steal Lance for herself? Will “McDonalds: The Musical” be a big hit? Will Graciela hit a snag in her wedding plans? Will Roxie finally give in to Javier? YOU decide! Roxie Graciela Noelle Allison Kyoko |
