I’ve never done blue mascara, so maybe it’s about time. We all want to draw attention to our eyes, and using blue instead of black to coat lashes will surely make a statement. It’s not just an impulse buy. You can use it plenty of times. There’s nothing standard about this, so don’t think in the standard way. You don’t have to apply it alone. How do you wear blue mascara? Layering the shade with another can create a neat visual trick (just the hint of blue on your tips or over/under black mascara sounds tres chic).

Who makes blue mascara? Why, darling, everyone! Dior, Urban Decay, Yves Saint Laurent, Benefit…they all have it. But it’s not so trendy that it’d be embarrassing to wear. I love a good trend, but by this point in the summer I’m feeling like my gladiator sandals are more of a uniform than something I truly love. (Even though I do!) I don’t want to look like everyone else. No one will pay you a lingering glance if you look like a carbon copy of the women all around you. It’s your features that make you unique - but even if your eyelashes have never been praised as one of your best features, blue mascara will amp them up to fabulous.

Consider this: we all love to whiten our teeth. But you can’t (as far as I know) whiten the whites of your eyes with any procedure. However, blue mascara is said to make the whites of your eyes look whiter. Pretty neat!

I’m certain someone will say ‘No way. Blue mascara sounds weird. I’m not in my 20’s. I will get mocked.” Sorry, but you can’t use that excuse. Most all of these blue shades are a violet type of blue that doesn’t appear BLUEBLUEBLUE to anyone. Just stay away from any ‘electric blue’ shades and you’ll be fine.

Sax-ual Healing by Jennifer Anthony

Every day for the past week, Graciela had awoken sweaty and bewildered from sax dreams.
The Friday before, she’d seen the instrument for the first time at S.O.B.’s – Sounds of Brazil – in SoHo. Her salsa band, which consisted of Javier on bass, along with the timbalero, the trombonist, the trumpeter, and herself on ...
